About CalcBuilt

CalcBuilt is a collection of free calculators for construction, remodeling and landscaping projects. The goal is simple: help you figure out how much material to buy, in the units the store actually sells, without a spreadsheet or a phone call to a contractor.

Every calculator is built on the standard formulas used by suppliers and trade references, with typical waste factors and product sizes (bag yields, box coverage, sheet sizes, bundles per square) built in. Each tool explains its assumptions so you can adjust them for your own project, and works in both US and metric units.

The CalcBuilt Editorial Team

CalcBuilt is built and maintained by an independent publisher with a background in software and web publishing. We are not a contractor or a materials retailer, and we do not sell anything on this site. Our job is to get the math right and explain it clearly.

Before a calculator goes live, its formula is worked by hand against published examples, cross-checked with manufacturer coverage data (Quikrete, USG, GAF, Trex and others) and retailer product listings, and tested with edge cases such as zero openings, diagonal layouts and metric inputs. The date each page was last reviewed is shown under its title. The full list of assumptions is on the how we calculate page.

Results are estimates. Real-world quantities depend on your layout, the exact products you buy and how carefully the work is done. Always confirm with your supplier and check local building codes before ordering or building.
